The film deals with New York City advertising executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick), who confronts his junkie daughter Melissa's (Susan Sarandon) drug-dealing boyfriend Frank (Patrick McDermott) when she ends up in a mental hospital after suffering an overdose of speed.
